The Maids: Setting the Standard for Health-Conscious Home Cleaning

Founded in 1979 by Daniel J. Bishop in Omaha, Nebraska, The Maids has grown into a trusted name in residential cleaning, widely recognized for its focus on creating healthier living spaces. With its headquarters still based in Omaha, the company began franchising just a year later in 1980 and has since expanded its footprint throughout North America.

The Maids delivers top-tier home cleaning services, built around a signature 22-Step Cleaning Process that leaves no detail overlooked. This system is designed not only for thoroughness but also for promoting a cleaner, safer indoor environment.

What truly sets The Maids apart is its use of advanced cleaning tools and eco-friendly products. This combination supports both high performance and sustainability, making The Maids a standout choice for families seeking both cleanliness and care for their well-being.

Training

The Maids provides a comprehensive training program to franchisees to ensure operational success. The training by the franchisor, TMI (The Maids International), includes the following:

  1. SMART Start Set-Up: This is an introductory phase to familiarize the franchisee with the business system and operations of The Maids.
  2. SMART Start Training: A formal educational program that teaches the methods and procedures required to run a The Maids® Business.
  3. Power Training: Conducted within 90 days of opening, this includes one to four days of on-site instruction. Topics include quality control, safety, inventory, and adherence to company procedures. A qualified trainer or performance consultant provides this training.
  4. Additional Training: TMI may offer optional or required training sessions, either live or online, for which additional fees may apply.
  5. Web-Based Training: Online modules for management staff via webinars and self-paced courses available through an e-learning platform.
  6. Performance Consulting: Post-opening support includes ongoing guidance via phone or other communication channels to monitor and improve operations.

Territory Protection

The Maids provides franchisees with a protected Designated Market Area defined by clear physical boundaries. While the franchise agreement is in effect and the franchisee remains compliant, no other The Maids businesses—franchised or company-owned—can operate within that area without written consent.

Each Designated Market Area includes one or more Franchise Territories, typically covering about 24,000 households per territory. This ensures exclusive operational rights within the assigned region, unless the franchisee breaches the agreement.
