Training

The Canopy Lawn franchise provides several types of training and guidance programs for its franchisees. Here are the main training programs offered by the Franchisor:

  1. Initial Training Program
This is held in Raleigh, North Carolina, Richmond, Virginia, or another designated location. It covers the Canopy System, basic agronomics, marketing, sales, customer relations, IT systems, safety, and practical experience in running a lawn care business. Attendance is mandatory, and while there's no fee for the training itself, franchisees must cover travel, meals, and personal expenses.
  2. Supplemental and Refresher Training
Franchisees or their Designated Business Managers may be required to attend these programs. The Franchisor may charge a reasonable fee for participation, and the franchisee must bear all associated travel and living expenses.
  3. Mandatory Annual Conferences
Attendance at annual conferences designated by the Franchisor is required. Franchisees are responsible for all associated costs, including conference fees, travel, meals, and accommodation.
  4. Employee Training Program
Franchisees must implement a training program for their own employees and ensure the staff is sufficiently trained to meet Canopy’s operational standards.

Territory Protection

Canopy Lawn franchise provides territory protection to its franchisees during the term of their agreement, as long as the franchisee complies with all contractual obligations. The franchisor agrees not to establish or license another Lawn Care Business using its marks within the designated territory.

This territory is defined based on demographic criteria, such as population density and dwelling units, and will remain fixed unless altered during the execution of a successor franchise agreement.

However, the protection is not entirely exclusive. Canopy reserves the right to engage with national accounts, even within a franchisee's territory, and may reassign jobs if the franchisee is unwilling or unable to fulfill them.

Additionally, franchisees may be temporarily allowed to serve adjacent unsold territories, but must cease operations there if the franchisor grants that area to another franchisee.
